“Heart Feel It” is the forthcoming album by independent Reggae artist Sister Julie. Some of the new record’s prevailing themes include love and unity, equal rights, determination and sisterhood. Lyrical references to Mount Zion and Jah offer insight into the artist’s commitment to the Rastafari way of life.
Meticulously produced by the deft hand of Brooklyn raised virtuoso, Rocker-T, the record boasts a variety of collaborations with esteemed Jamaican icons Sister Carol, Lady Ann, Prezident Brown, and Ranking Joe. Grammy nominated Steel Pulse alumni, Sidney Mills, mixed the project, and co-produced some dub tracks, utilizing both vintage and cutting edge technology, lending a classic air to the original material. Mainstays of the reggae DJ community online have lauded the first two singles to be released, “Forward” and “Jah Love Remains” as word spreads about the anticipated album.
Sister Julie has done her share of soul searching to nurture and expand her talent as a songwriter and vocalist. She spent two decades as a schoolteacher in Portland’s Public School District, imparting life lessons along with the general curriculum. “Believe in yourself”, “follow your heart” and “pursue your dreams” are much more than catchphrases to the self-taught multi-instrumentalist. Sister Julie ceaselessly cultivated her artistic skills while raising her son alone and earning a Master’s Degree in Teaching. The Portland native’s direct, candid approach onstage is in perfect alignment with the straightforward nature of her content. This debut offering shines with refreshing integrity.
An intimate outdoor listening party at Portland mainstay, The Star Theater, will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 to celebrate the album’s release. Plans to tour with a cohort of acclaimed musicians who play on the recording are currently in the works. Single motherhood and an extensive career in education may have made Sister Julie’s debut album a dream deferred, but “Heart Feel It” is well worth the wait.
