The song, titled Hit and Run, speaks to people who enjoy romance without settling down. Its music video was shot at a resort and on the beach, with lighthearted scenes that include Maina riding a quad bike while a suitor gives chase. Senator James Kamau Murango and MCA David Mathenge also appear in the video, leaving their political duties behind for the musical venture.
Instead of sounding preachy, Maina packages her warning with humor, urging listeners to notice the warning signs early and guard their hearts before they become too deeply involved.
This is not Maina's first time behind a microphone. The 32-year-old trained lawyer and human rights advocate previously explored music during her university years under the stage name Carola Jayne, long before she became a prominent parliamentary voice for young Kenyans.
